One of the questions I get asked most often is, “Where should we take our family photos?” The Portland and Beaverton area has so many beautiful spots, but here are some of my absolute favorites:
🌅 Cooper Mountain Nature Park Cooper Mountain is one of my go-to spots, especially for golden hour sessions. The trails, tall grasses, and wide open skies create the perfect natural backdrop with stunning light as the sun sets. It gives photos that dreamy, warm glow that everyone loves.
🍁 Cathedral Park Any time of year, Cathedral Park is gorgeous, but it’s especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. The architectural details of the St. Johns Bridge above create a dramatic and unique backdrop. I love that you can get so many different looks in one location – the bridge, the waterfront, and the park itself.
🌸 Downtown Portland During Cherry Blossom Season If you’re looking for those magical cherry blossom photos, downtown Portland is the place to be in the spring. I’ve found that going in the afternoon during a weekday is best – it’s less crowded, and you get beautiful soft lighting for dreamy portraits among the blossoms.
🌳 Hagg Lake Hagg Lake offers so much variety. Whether you want photos surrounded by trees and nature, or images with the lake as a peaceful backdrop, there are plenty of hidden gems around the area to create the look you’re envisioning.
🏙 Downtown Beaverton Near the City Library For a more urban feel, downtown Beaverton near the library offers unique textures and backgrounds for family or couple photos. The streetscapes, murals, and brick walls add character and a modern vibe to your gallery.
🌷 Jenkins Estate
Jenkins Estate is a beautiful location year-round, but in spring, the cherry blossoms and mini garden areas truly come alive with color. It’s a great mix of green spaces, wooded trails, and blooming gardens, and it’s often pretty quiet, giving us space to create beautiful, natural portraits without crowds.
No matter what vibe you’re going for – urban, garden, forest, or lake – there are so many beautiful options near Beaverton and Portland. If you ever need help choosing the perfect location for your family session, I’m always happy to guide you based on the look and feel you want to create.
